Basic Needs Ministry - Fire Code Violations

Basic Needs Ministry failed a surprise fire inspection on August 24, 2006. It did not have current fire extinguisher inspection tags in place and had clothing piled near the lobby ceiling. The extinguishers were reinspected and tagged and the clothing was moved to comply by August 26. Basic Needs passed the re-inspection on September 11, 2006. To comply with Johnston County ordinances, no clothing may be stacked within two feet of the ceiling tiles.

Many good donations will have to be turned away, once the lobby is too full to ensure that Basic Needs does not violate fire code. More volunteers are needed to quality check and display over 6,000 new donations every week. The inventory would be considered low, if the 16,000 Basic Needs free clothing gift certificates were used that are already available in the community. All residents may purchase clothing and household goods, during our fundraisers on Saturdays.
