Friends of Cleveland Library
Friends of Cleveland Library was registered in Johnston County, North Carolina, on April 7, 2011, for the purpose of providing library advocacy for the Cleveland Library and the county residents it serves, who do not live in the incorporated communities with library service. It will operate as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. It is the philosophy of the founders and supporters of Cleveland Library that all children and residents should have equal access to library materials and services, regardless where they live, and that a local library should support the needs and reading levels of all residents, regardless of their background and education. To support this philosophy, Cleveland set a goal to increase the children's library to 40,000 books; increase its total collection to 160,000; review the possibility of multiple locations; seek and accept donated books that are outside the norm for local public libraries; and will promote the use of lending arrangements with other county, university, and government libraries in order to meet community needs. Cleveland Library will seek sufficient independent support to serve the community continuously without threats of shutdown by political budget cuts. Friends are anticipated to take a lead in fundraising, book selection, and book drives; provide direction on which subjects the library promotes for growth; develop outreach services and programs to the community schools and other interest centers; make educational and cultural programming available to residents; assist in the planning for a new facility and its financing; and help staff and provide services in the library. The library is at 5533 N.C. HWY 42 W STE D96, Garner and is open 32 hours weekly: Mondays 1-9; Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays 9-5. More information about the library is available at: http://4042needs.org/library/ or call the service desk at 919-661-6565.
