Basic Needs Ministry - Serving the Flooded

The Basic Needs Ministry founder works for the State of North Carolina and is active in the State Employees Association of North Carolina (SEANC). In 2004, when the floods hit Clyde and Conover, a member of SEANC was on the scene and called a clothing order in to Basic Needs with specific clothing categories and sizes. The clothing was trucked from the Basic Needs warehouse to SEANC headquarters and then transported by the Western Regional Representative to Clyde. It was the first clothing to reach many people who had only one set of muddy clothes and who were facing night temperatures dropping to freezing. See the Baptist efforts at assistance and restoration (page was restored for historic purposes).

Basic Needs Ministry follows the basic premise of responsible disaster assistance: Do not send clothing into a disaster zone unless you have an established need, specific clothing to meet that need, shelter for the clothing, and method of distribution. Basic Needs coordinates its efforts with the Governor's Office, Emergency Management, National Guard, and other agencies.
