Basic Needs Ministry - Break Rules

Breaks

Rules for taking "paid" breaks:

  • A community service worker working a 4-hour shift is entitled to a paid 15-minute break on the clock at any time during that shift other than the first and last 15 minutes of the shift.
  • A community service worker working two 4-hour shifts in a row (8 hours total) is entitled to a paid 15-minute break during each shift other than the first and last 15 minutes of the shifts. The breaks must be taken at separate times. The community service worker is also required to clock out for a 30-minute unpaid break at a separate time from the paid breaks.
  • REMEMBER THESE BREAKS CANNOT BE COMBINED.

Staff lounge

A community service worker wanting to use the staff lounge for their lunch should get the key from his/her supervisor. Community service worker assistants may store food items in the refrigerator and use the microwave. Please respect others' food items. Community service workers may also use the staff lounge while on their breaks if they are working enough hours (4) to receive one.

Note: The lounge is not to be visited while on the clock. Community service workers are permitted to get their beverage if stored in the refrigerator, etc, but lounging while on the clock is not permitted.
