Basic Needs Ministry - Making Gift Certificates
During the Thanksgiving holiday, Basic Needs volunteers plan the gift certificate program for the following year. Decisions are made on the text, printing, amount, and the churches and schools that will distribute the certificates. The cover letter is written and rewritten until it gets approval by our staff.
In early December the certificates go to the printer, the paper is selected, and the cuts are made. The letter is printed and trifolded.
Over the Christmas holiday, the envelopes are prepared, labelled, stuffed with the letter and 60 certificates in each. Addresses must match the 18-20,000 certificates and all must be sorted by ZIP.
Then into the postal trays and off to the mail in time for delivery by January 2. At this point we have committed to give away 180,000 in the next 365 days, if the churches and schools will give the certificates to those in need and if the community will bring in enough clothing.
They are all hand counted, sorted, and stuffed.
