Basic Needs Ministry - How to Do Container Work

Inventory organization - prior to fall 2007 - this is waiting for new text

How to organize - Bring out two boxes and out them by the container door - one with children's clothing on the right and one with adult clothing on the left. The person most familiar with clothing types and sizes sorts and tells the others which box to place each item. This eliminates trying to walk the entire length of the container. Any clothing less than new or like new goes in the dumpster. Put only one size of clothing in the children's boxes. If you have a size like 6/7 and you do not have a special box, put it in the lower number box. In this case the 6 box.

How: All clothing must be laid flat in the correct storage box to get the best use of space and stability

Arrangement: Left side of container are the large boxes for adult clothing and the right size are smaller boxes for children's clothing grouped by size (boys and girls in same box). - Where we missed a category label, check with Ron, make a big white label using a black marker, and stick it on the boxes in the upper right corner with clear packing tape. Always ask.

If you have adult clothing and no box has the right category, it must be brought to the middle table in the prep room for hanging - All adult T-shirts, lingerie, men's slacks, sleepwear, swimwear, maternity clothes, shoes, underwear, ties, gloves, and short skirts (under 23"). When the racks are filled and overstock boxes are filled in the warehouse, we will set up a container storage box.

Adult boxes are typically - but not always in this order:

  1. All adult shorts
  2. Ladies short sleeve blouses
  3. All adult jeans
  4. Ladies' long sleeve blouses
  5. Ladies' slacks
  6. Men's slacks
  7. All men's shirts
  8. Ladies' long skirts - short ones under 23" come inside the prep room
  9. Ladies' dresses
  10. All adult sweat shirts
  11. Ladies' indoor jackets and suits
  12. All adult outside coats and jackets
  13. All adult sweaters

When boxes are filled to the top and packed tight in all corners and edges so they will not settle, even with hundreds of pounds on them, then another box is labeled and placed on top.
